Know Our History: Halloween celebrations

Students have been celebrating Halloween on campus for decades. An excerpt from The Mount Holyoke, describes how students celebrated the spooky night together in 1891: “The gymnasium, the scene of festivities, seemed changed into an abode for the inhabitants of some strange, weird land, and the appearance of the merrymakers, clad in costumes of all nations, and many in garb never before seen in any nation, under the soft light streaming from the eyes of innumerable jack-o'-lanterns, added to the illusion.” Mark your calendar for ASC’s Haunted Mount Holyoke - historical ghost tour on Monday, October 30th, at 7:30. Meet in the Archives for a tour around campus. Questions? Email archives@mtholyoke.edu
