How to map a network drive

On a PC: 

  1. If you are working from OFF CAMPUS, please connect to the MHC VPN.
  2. Open a Windows File Explorer window.
  3. Select This PC on the left side pane.
  4. Select the computer tab.
  5. In the ribbon menu at the top, choose Map network drive.
  6. Select any letter of the alphabet to represent the drive folder from the drop-down list.
  7. Enter the network address for the drive you want to connect to. 
    1. From on Campus: \\ambr\depts for department shared files and folders.
    2. Remotely: \\ambr.mtholyoke.edu\depts for department shared files and folders.
    3. NOTE: Faculty should try \\mhc.mtholyoke.edu to find academic work 
  8. Once you have confirmed your selection, select Finish at the lower-right corner.
  9. If you want to reconnect every time you use your computer, you'll have the option to choose between reconnecting at sign in or connecting using different credentials.
    1. Note: If you are working remotely, you may preface your username with the campus domain name such as ms\<your-username>. 
  10. At the end of this process, the new drive will appear any time you navigate to this PC in File Explorer, and you will be able to access its content from there.

On a Mac: 

  1. If you are working from OFF CAMPUS, please connect to the MHC VPN
  2. Choose Finder from your App Dock. 
  3. From the toolbar, choose GO → Connect to server 
  4. Enter the network address for the drive you want to connect to.
    1. From on Campus:  smb://ambr/depts for department shared files and folders.
      1. NOTE: Faculty should try smb://mhc.mtholyoke.edu to find academic work 
    2. Remotely: smb://ambr.mtholyoke.edu/depts for department shared files and folders.
  5. Choose Connect
