Do I have to set up anything extra in Moodle to access my Kaltura videos? No. You can access all of your created or uploaded Kaltura video content directly within Moodle, in the My Media tab in the left hand navigation bar.
Do I have to use kaltura.mtholyoke.edu to create or upload video, or can I do it from within Moodle? You can create or upload any video content from within My Media in Moodle. All content that you create or upload into My Media in Moodle is directly accessible to your account at kaltura.mtholyoke.edu, and vice versa. While you don’t ever have to leave Moodle to create video content using Kaltura, you might find that working in kaltura.mtholyoke.edu is easier with big or complicated projects.
I didn’t know I had an account at kaltura.mtholyoke.edu! Do I have one? Yes. Kaltura is available to all faculty, staff, and students via this address. To login, visit kaltura.mtholyoke.edu, and click on the guest drop down menu in the upper right hand corner. Then select “login” and when prompted enter your Mount Holyoke credentials. If you also use Moodle as either a faculty member or a student, then all video created, uploaded, or edited using your account at this site is automatically accessible in your My Media within Moodle.
What are some of my options for using Kaltura videos in Moodle? There are many different options! Use it to add videos to your course, either your own that you’ve created or uploaded into your My Media, or any public Youtube videos that you can import through Kaltura. You can also create video assignments for your students, provide video feedback on assignments, use the Media Gallery in your course to create a curated group of videos, or create interactive video quizzes. Check out the options here and see how they work!
Do I need to create my own captions for the videos I make or upload? No. Kaltura automatically attempts to caption all media with machine-generated captions in English, to the best of its ability. These captions average over 90% accurate, but you will find that accuracy decreases the more specialized language is used. Need to adjust the captions? You can edit them manually. You can also request captions in other languages, or work with Disability to order professional captions to meet student accessibility needs.
Can I just record through Zoom? Yes. If you are logged into your MHC Zoom account when you record your meeting to the cloud, a copy of that Zoom recording will automatically be created in Kaltura. You’ll be able to find it in your My Media or on kaltura.mtholyoke.edu a short while after your meeting concludes.
