Know Our History: Friends & Family Weekend from 1995

Friends & Family Weekend is a longstanding Mount Holyoke Tradition. The event originated as Parents Day in the 1950s, taking place during the May Day Pageant. It has gone through several changes since, including a period when it was called Father’s Weekend. The event was moved to the fall in 1980. Parents Weekend, which traditionally included races, speeches, and picnics, was again renamed in 1989 and since then has been known as Friends & Family Weekend. Past events have included rowing regattas on the Connecticut, department teas, gracious dinner, riding shows, music performances, bronze casting, faculty seminars, and dorm teas.
