New Minimum Computer Operating System Versions for Fall 2024

To project the privacy, data, and reputation of the College community, it's important that computers used to access College systems (including your MHC Account) are running operating systems that are currently supported by the vendor. New OS versions are released every year.

As of Fall, 2024, these computer OSes are the minimum supported versions:

These are versions for which ongoing security updates are being provided at the time of publishing.

LITS encourages MHC community members to make sure that their personal computers are running one of these versions. MHC-owned computers are required to run supported operating system versions (with rare exceptions that must be pre-negotiated with LITS).

  • macOS Sequoia (15) - available to MHC-owned computers later in the fall semester
  • macOS Sonoma (14)
  • macOS Ventura (13)
  • Windows 11 23H2
  • Windows 11 22H2
  • Windows 10 22H2

For more information about supported operating versions, please see our articles about macOS upgrades and Windows supported versions

Your next steps:

  1. Check your computer's operating system from the Settings app.
  2. Perform any offered upgrade from the software update settings.

If you have questions about this, please contact the LITS Technology Help Desk at 413-538-2600 or asklits@mtholyoke.edu

We're happy to help with upgrades!

Interested in getting early access to new OS versions on MHC-owned computers?

Faculty and staff who enroll in the LITS Early Adopter's program get access to new operating systems and software patches before the rest of campus.

Early adopters test new configurations and receive software patches and updates on their MHC-owned computers soon after they are released by vendors, reporting any issue they find to LITS. This helps LITS to understand the effect that necessary security settings, patches, and updates may have on computers in our environment. By engaging with a diverse group of early adopters across campus, we are better able to address any changes or problems that would be otherwise unforeseen.

If this is something you'd like to help with, learn more about the program and enroll your MHC-computer now!
