How do we know it's phishing?

  • The sender phone number isn't President Holley's phone number, and the recipient doesn't have them in their contacts.
  • The message creates urgency, but is also very vague. The sender wants you to respond quickly without thinking too much about the interaction, and ideally trick you into bypassing regular procedures and security measures you would otherwise follow.

What to do if you get a message like this:

  • Report it to the LITS Technology Help Desk by taking a screenshot and forwarding it to helpdesk@mtholyoke.edu
  • Report the message as junk/spam on your phone and block the sender
