Know Your History: Evelyn Yellow Robe, Class of 1942

Evelyn Yellow Robe, born in 1919 the daughter of a Lakota Chief, graduated magna cum laude from Mount Holyoke in 1942, focusing her coursework around speech and psychology. She worked for the College briefly as a speech instructor, its first known Indigenous faculty member. She went on to earn master’s and doctorate degrees in speech pathology from Northwestern University, then taught at Vassar College, and later taught at Northwestern University.
