Ghost stories became a part of Mount Holyoke’s folklore soon after its opening. Perhaps ghost stories were so prevalent because of the death of our founder, Mary Lyon, only slightly over ten years after Mount Holyoke’s opening, while nursing a sick student, or due to several student disappearances over the years. Ghost stories concern many figures throughout our history from Mary Lyon, to trustees and students. To hear Mount Holyoke’s best ghost stories and the truths behind them join us for the Haunted Mount Holyoke tour, on October 29th, at 8 pm which starts in the archives in the basement of Dwight Hall.
