Architects of Mount Holyoke buildings

You can learn about the architectural history of the Mount Holyoke campus by using Archives and Special Collections.

Mary Lyon Hall and Mary Lyon Chapel opened in 1897 on the former site of Mount Holyoke's original Seminary Building, which burned down in September 1896. The buildings were designed by Gardner, Pyne and Gardner of Springfield, Massachusetts. In 1938, Allen, Collens and Willis of Boston, Massachusetts enlarged and remodeled the original chapel to create Abbey Memorial Chapel.

The following research guide identifies individuals known to have been involved in the design or renovation of buildings and other structures at Mount Holyoke College from 1837 to the present. The date of the completion of work on each building is also listed.
